Nine
local artists who reside between Back Creek and Spa Creek combine their
talents in one great show.
How
the Show Came to Be
In 1992
painters Cindy Fletcher Holden, Simeone Coxe and Sculpturer Monroe Hall
held a rogue art exhibit in a warehouse in Annapolis. The art exhibit
was called "Warehouse of the Refused" named after the 1700s
French painters exhibitions called "Salon of the Refused."
Interest
in the trio of artists Fletcher Holden, Coxe and Hall, was so great
that two more shows were added over the years. Since that time Coxe
and Hall have relocated out of the area.
In 2000
Cindy Fletcher Holden and Cheryl Jersey began to discuss ways to revive
and update "Warehouse of the Refused." After many phone calls
and over a year of planning Cindy and Cheryl's revival of the art exhibition
began to take shape. With exhibition space provided by Annapolis Maritime
Museum the art exhibit seemed doable, giving local artists a chance
to present their artwork to the public.
Cindy chose
artists with varying artistic styles. The one common denominator running
through the show is that all of the artists live within blocks of one
another, and live between two creeksSpa Creek and Back Creek...Art
Between the Creeks.
