Exhibition
Melbourne Smith:
Master Shipwright & Maritime Artist

November 2, 2002 - April 13, 2025

NEW! EXHIBITION EXTENDED TO APRIL 13!

Melbourne Smith designed and built the original Pride of Baltimore, plus nearly a dozen other historically accurate replicas, including Commodore Perry’s flagship Niagara and Capt. Cook’s Endeavour.

His hand-drawn plans of his most recently launched project, the 1812-era privateer Lynx, are among the artifacts on display, along with half-models, tools, and a collection of original watercolor profiles of historic tall ships, yachts, and traditional Chesapeake Bay watercraft.

The watercolors are on display in the Barge House portion of the museum, next door to McNasby’s Oyster Packing House. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

The Lynx portion of the exhibit is in the Great Room adjacent to the Maritime Café at McNasby’s, and will be on display during the café’s regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

A reception to mark the exhibit's opening was held on November 8, 5 - 9 p.m.
