ANNAPOLIS ROTARY CRAB FEAST YIELDS $35,940
FOR LOCAL N0N-PROFIT GROUPS

Over the next few weeks, the Annapolis Rotary Club will award 17 Anne Arundel County-based non-profit groups grants totaling $35,940, proceeds from the club’s annual crab feast held last August.

"The Crab Feast is the Annapolis Rotary Club’s largest annual fund raiser," said Rotary grants committee chairman and past president Chris Hutchinson. "Each one of the 150 members will volunteer countless hours to making that event a success, and every penny of the proceeds goes to help local organizations conduct their own special services for the community."

Over the past 56 years, the Annapolis Rotary Club has donated more than $500,000 from the crab feast, which is the club’s largest fund-raiser. "We believe in long-term support of worthwhile projects," Mr. Hutchinson continues. "For instance, this year’s grant to Salvation Army is the second installment of our pledge to give a total of $25,000 over three years for their new computer room."

This year, the grants committee made awards to:

  • Anne Arundel County Dental Van
  • Salvation Army
  • Hospice of the Chesapeake
  • Friends of Clay Street Children
  • A-Step
  • Anne Arundel County CASA
  • Bates Middle School
  • Food Link, Inc. (Emergency Baby Pantry)
  • Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts
  • YWCA of Annapolis & AA County Intervention Services
  • United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Maryland (UCP Center)
  • Opportunities Industrialization Center of AA County
  • Crosswinds
  • Maryland Therapeutic Riding
  • Friends of Arundel Seniors
  • Leadership Anne Arundel
  • Annapolis Maritime Museum

The next Rotary Crab Feast will take place at the Navy/Marine Corps Memorial Stadium from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 2, for the 57th consecutive year.

While the feast is an "all-you-can-eat" affair, because of the present crab situation on the Chesapeake Bay, those attending will be urged to "Share a Crab" to cut down on waste.

Maryland crab soup, fresh corn on the cob, and barbecue sandwiches and hot dogs from Adam’s Ribs will also be served, along with soft drinks and beer. For ticket information, visit the Annapolis Rotary Club web site: www.annapolisrotary.com.
