Maritime Museum Finds Dockage for Classic
Bay-Built Drake-Tail Workboat
August
9, 2002The Annapolis Maritime Museum found good neighbors
in the King James Landing Association, which has offered to provide
dockage at its community marina on the upper reaches of Back Creek
for a 1925 drake-tail workboat recently donated to the
museum.
The
docks at McNasbys are too exposed to properly protect the
boat, explains the museums facilities and fleet supervisor,
Capt. Bill OGara, so were grateful to have such
a well-protected spot to keep this beautiful specimen of a workboat.
The slip at the King James Landing marina is ill suited for any
modern recreational boat, but its ideal for the drake-tail,
which is 38 feet long, with a beam of only 6 8 and a
draft of just 14. The boat will be brought down to the museums
docks at the McNasby oyster packing house at the Back Creek end
of Second Street in Eastport for special occasions.
